How did the “Telugu” name or word come?

Many arguments are there regarding how the Telugu name has come. Despite having known about it, I too don’t know how the Telugu name has come or formed exactly. Just, I am writing here what I have heard. The “Telugu” has formed from names of three temples of Lord Shiva which are in two Telugu states. Lord Shiva temples, Kaleshwaram in Karimnagar in Telangana state, Srisailam in Kurnool and Bhimavaram in West Godavari in Andhra Pradesh state, played key role in forming of the Telugu name or word.

The place was called “Thrilinga” which was between the three temples. One of the arguments regarding the formation of forming Telugu word is Telinga, Telungu and Telugu words have come from “Thrilinga” word.

This is the information what I have known about the formation of Telugu word or name. I request you (readers) if you know how the “Telugu” word or name has formed, please tell about it through the comment box.

According to an estimation of linguistics, 2,400 years ago, the Telugu language was separated from the Dravidian language and it formed as an individual language.

Know about the Telugu Script:

Despite having come from the Dravidian language, all south India languages scripts have come from the ancient Brahmi script. Satavahana kings, subordinates of the Mourya kingdom’s emperor Asoka, brought the Brahmi script to south India.

Mourya’s Brahmi script related letters, on the inscription of Buddhist stupa at Bhattiprolu in Guntur, were identified. According to an estimation of researchers, in the A.D. fifth century, the old Telugu script came from the Bhattiprolu script.
